Jack A. Powell, 81, of Rockford, passed away on Friday, Nov.13, 2020. Born Canton, Ill., on June 7, 1939 to F.M. and Frances (Turner) Powell.
Graduated from Moline High School and from NIU with a Bachelors in Education and a Masters in Administration and Supervision. He was a teacher and coach at Pecatonica Jr. High; a teacher and varsity basketball coach in LaMoille, Ill. He was at Meridian Community Unit School District from 1969 to 1997 where he started as a teacher and varsity basketball coach and then became Principal of Meridian Jr. High School and Athletic Director. He retired in 1997. In retirement he enjoyed winters in Florida for 20 years.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Lucille Powell; son, Doug (Jamie) Powell and their children, Jack and Libby; daughter, Susie Powell and her children, Ashley (children, Chance and Tobias) and Jared; step-son, Tim (Sarah) Johnson and their children, Gwen, Adrian and Brendan.
Predeceased by his parents and his first wife, Annette (Gray) Powell, married from 1965 to 1985.
