Jana L. (Meier) Bricker

MOUNT MORRIS – Jana L. (Meier) Bricker, 62, of Mount Morris, passed away peacefully at Swedish American Hospital on July 6th, 2021. Visitation was at 5:30 p.m. on Friday July 9th with a short memorial ceremony to follow at 7 p.m. at Finch Funeral Home in Mount Morris.  She was subsequently be cremated and part of her remains dispersed in Florida and Colorado and the remainder buried in Illinois at a later date in accordance with her wishes.

Jana was born on Feb. 13th, 1959 in Dixon, IL to Theodore and Yvonne (Suter) Meier. Jana grew up in Honeycreek, Ill., and relocated to Colorado Springs, Colo., in her early 20’s where she met Douglas “Doug” Newby, eventually joining him in matrimony on July 20, 1985. She worked as a secretary for several years and soon became financial aid director for National American University. She later married Ernest “Ernie” Bricker on June 22, 2005 in Colorado Springs and the two retired to Mount Morris to be nearer her family.

Jana was an avid animal lover, devoting considerable time to adopting and caring for several dogs and cats throughout her lifetime. She also had a great appreciation for nature and enjoyed exploring the beauty of Colorado in her youth. She carried on her family traditions of crocheting and quilting and spent her spare time crafting and caring for her beloved family.

Jana was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Yvonne, her brother Danny “Dan” Meier, and her husband Ernie. She is survived by her son Shawn (Nathan) Wlodarchak and her daughter Amanda “Mandy” Newby; brother David Williams; and sister Nikki Williams.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed towards Granny Rose Animal Shelter or Illinois Valley Animal Rescue (IVAR).
