POLO – John E. Kenney, age 80, of Polo, passed away Friday, Aug. 30, 2019 at Kindred Hospital in Sycamore.
John was born April 19, 1939 in Chicago, the son of Joseph and Rita (Robertson) Kenney. He was a 1957 graduate of Dixon High School and later married Lydia Jimenez on Feb. 15, 1958 in Sterling. John was retired from Commonwealth Edison after 40 years of service. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and active in his parish of St. Mary Catholic Church in Polo. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He is dearly missed.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lydia, Polo; three daughters, Diana (Doug Bannister) Kenney of Columbia, Mo., Cynthia (Kevin) Dix of South Elgin and Kathleen (Jeff Sterken) Kenney of Chicago; one son, Jim (Lori) Kenney of Sterling; six grandchildren, Ian (Jessi Snyder) Kenney of Urbana, Emily (Brett) Renner of Pompano Beach, Florida, Caitlyn Dix of Wheaton, Joshua Dix of Chicago, Kassidy (Nick Olds) Kenney of Sterling, and Landon Kenney of Sterling.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Thomas John Kenney, and one brother, Donald Kenney.
Visitation was held on Saturday, Sept. 7 from 10-11:15 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 211 N. Franklin Avenue, Polo, Illinois 61064. Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial was Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at the church with Reverend Joseph P. Naill officiating. Private burial will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to St. Mary Catholic Church in Polo.
