John Robert Hoffman died peacefully on Sept. 4, 2021 in Denver, Colo. John was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Ruth Hoffman, (Stillman Valley) and one brother Daniel Hoffman (Stillman Valley).
John was born in Rockford on Sept. 3, 1955. He attended Byron High School in Byron. He graduated from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana in 1985 where he received a full-ride academic scholarship to study mathematics and computer programming. He worked for many years as a computer programmer at Zenith Cutter in Rockford, Illinois and Newell Rubbermaid in Freeport, Illinois. He also spent 4 years in the US army working in intelligence operations and he was stationed in El Paso, Texas. After being honorably discharged from his full-time Army duties, John spent many years in the Army Reserves. John also received his Master’s degree in Education from Rockford College.
John recently retired in Denver, Colorado where he was spending time with his loving family and enjoying his retirement. He leaves behind two daughters, Ellena C. Hoffman (Chad Rickman) of Las Vegas, Nev., and Heather E. Hoffman (Russ Duncan) of Denver, Colo. He also leaves behind an older brother, Paul Hoffman (Jan Champion), of Cranberry Township, Pa., a niece Kate Hoffman (Justin King) of Cranberry Township, Pa., and a nephew Brett Hoffman, of Middletown, Del.
He had many friends and family. He was known for his faithfulness to his family, sharp intellect, witty and dry sense of humor, intelligent conversations, and a love for laughter and adventure. His family and friends are filled with many happy memories. He was very loved. He was a terrific father and a good friend to all who knew him. He will be greatly missed.
A memorial service honoring John’s life will be held at Colorado Community Church in Aurora, Colorado on Sept. 23 at 1:30 p.m. MST. A private service will be held for close family members on Sept. 22. On Sept. 24, he will be buried with military honors at Ft. Logan in Denver, Colorado.
