OREGON – Beloved Husband, Father and Grandfather, Leon Grooms, 84, of Oregon, died on Wednesday, Jan. 5th, 2022, just days after the passing of his beautiful wife, Joan. He was born on Sept.3, 1937, in Marshfield, Mo., the son of Burley and Ida Grooms.

He married Joan Mora on Oct. 25, 1963, in Montgomery County, Ill. Together they lived in Oregon for nearly 60 years. Their greatest joy came from outdoor planting, gardening, golf carting, 4-wheelin’ and spending time with their little dogs. Leon had been enjoying retirement from Construction and the Byron Nuclear Plant for over 20 years.

He is survived by his daughter Cheryl Bennett of Belvidere, sons Tony (Julie) Mora of Rockford and Frank Mora of Henderson, Nev.; brother Roy (Gladys) Grooms of Sterling and sister Irene Hogen of Mountain Home, Ark.; grandchildren, Andrew (Catrina) Bennett, Megan (Tyler) Axtell, Audrey (Alex) Young, and Blake (Paul) Lentini; great grandchildren, Matthew, Wyatt, Wylie Faye, Anthony, Benjamin, Amelia, and Charlotte Rose and many, many nieces and nephews.

Leon is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Donnie, sisters, Seal, May, Loretta, and Cathy.

Our family would like to extend a sincere and heartfelt thank you to Deb Johnson and Bob Hansen who gave so much of their time and love for so many years to the caring of their Uncle Leon and Aunt Joan. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. There is no visitation. Special thanks to Serenity Hospice & Home in Oregon for their amazing care and compassion.
