Lucille E. Black

OREGON – Lucille E. Black, age 104 died Monday, Feb. 24, 2020 at the Serenity Hospice and Home surrounded by her loving family. She was born Feb. 26, 1915 near Dixon, the daughter of Herman and Avis (March) Haenitsch. 

She married Harold Black on June 17, 1939 in Clinton, Iowa. He preceded her in death in 1978.  Lucille worked for many years doing washing and ironing for local residents. She also worked at the sewing factory in Oregon, Rockford Screw Products, the shoe factory in Dixon, and Mid State in Rockford.  She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Oregon. She was also a member of the Mt. Morris Moose Lodge since 1970 where she was often seen helping with banquets and gatherings. Lucille loved playing bingo, gardening, flowers, and watching the deer and wild turkeys in her back yard. 

She was predeceased by her parents, husband Harold, 2 sons Eugene and James Black, son-in-law Robert Hammes, daughter-in-law Jill black, 2 sisters Alice Sword and Wilma Shoemaker, 2 brothers Chuck and Don Haenitsch, and 2 nieces Beverly Lauder and Shirley Wilsted. 

She is survived by her daughter Marjorie Cox-Hammes of Oregon, 5 grandchildren; Carol (Todd) Cline, David (Kim) Cox, Patrick (Tammy) Cox, Sandra (Jim) Young, and Corey Black, 11 great grandchildren, and 11 great great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. 

Funeral service was at 11 a.m., Friday, Feb. 28, 2020 at the First Presbyterian Church of Oregon with the Rev. Karen Gerhard-Conner officiating. Visitation was prior to the service from 10-11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Dixon.  A memorial fund is established in Lucille’s name.
