POLO – Mary Elizabeth Garber, 84, of rural Polo, died Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at Serenity Hospice Home in Oregon surrounded by her family. She was born Jan. 20, 1935 in Lee County, the daughter of Paul and Hazel (O'Brien) Busser.

She married Harold Garber in Sycamore on Feb. 21, 1966. Mary lived in this area for over 50 years and she and Harold owned and operated Big John Portable Toilets for 35 years. She formerly worked as a nurse at the Dixon State School. Mary was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Mt. Morris Moose Club #1551, and St. Mary's Church in Polo. She enjoyed cooking and baking and always liked a good game of Euchre. Her family and friends were the most important to her.

Survivors include her husband, Harold; daughter, Lisa (Andrew Dusing) Clayton of Polo; grandchildren, Ryan (Kellsi Howell and her daughter Cadence) Clayton and Brix Clayton both of Polo; son, Steven (Judy) Howard of Arizona; sister, Betty Richards of Texas; and brother, Chuck (Faye) Kreger of Florida.

She was preceded in death by her father Paul, her mother and step-father, Hazel and Joe Engles, infant daughter, Mary Ann Howard, brother Paul, and nephew Paul Jr.

Funeral Mass was Monday, July 29, 2019 at 10:30 a.m., preceded by a visitation from 8:30 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church, 612 Highland Ave., Dixon with Father Keith Romke officiating. A luncheon followed in the church fellowship hall and committal services were in St. Mary Cemetery, Polo at 1:30 p.m. Memorials may be directed to Serenity Hospice and Home, 1658 S.
