Nicholas John Kavala

POLO – Nicholas John Kavala, age 66, passed away on Wednesday July 3, 2019 at Aperion Care in Spring Valley. He was born in Chicago on Dec. 28, 1952 the son of John an Elayne (Baumgartner) Kavala.

He married Tamara Johnson on Dec. 23, 1988 in Downers Grove. He worked as a truck driver for "YRC" Yellow Freight. Nicholas and Tamara formerly lived in Lisle until moving to Ogle County in 2004. He was an active member of St. James Lutheran Church in Forreston where he also served as an usher. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, feeding the birds, and visiting with family and friends. He loved taking family vacations especially to the beaches in Florida.

He is survived by his loving wife, Tammy of Polo; mother, Elayne Kavala of Forreston; children, Nicholas "Nick" Kavala of Forreston and Mandy (Jordan) Rechenmacher of Rigby, ID; brother, Patrick (Domenica) Kavala of Brookfield, Ill.; and grandchildren, Jude, Nathan, Jameson, Anastasia, Augustine, Josephine, Ambrose, and Blaise.

He is preceded in death by his father, John Kavala.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday July 9, 2019 at the St. James Lutheran Church in Forreston with a visitation beginning at 2 p.m. prior to the service. Private burial will be held at Lisle Cemetery at a later date. Memorials are established in his name.
