STILLMAN VALLEY – Richard E. Johann, age 87, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2020.  He was born Nov. 11, 1933 in Chicago, the son of Evelyn Shilling. 

Dick graduated from Polo High School in 1951 and attended both Rock Valley College and Rockford College where he obtained his Associate’s degree. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1954-1956. After the service Dick returned home to the love of his life and married Shirley Bosecker on Oct. 20, 1956 at the Congregational Christian Church in Stillman Valley.

He retired as the Import and Export Administration Manager in 1995 after a 25-year career with Sundstrand Corporation in Rockford. He was a longtime member of the Congregational Christian Church in Stillman Valley and recently attended the Valley Evangelical Covenant Church in Stillman Valley. He was a past member of Ogle County Gideon’s Association and served in the Ogle County Jail Ministry. 

Dick is survived by his wife of 64 years Shirley Johann of Stillman Valley, daughter Brenda (Jeff) Miller of Callaway, Maryland, son Steve (Lisa) Johann of Cincinnati, Ohio, 4 grandchildren; Nathan Miller of Lexington Park, Maryland, Erika Miller of Greenville, North Carolina, Ashley Johann of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Alyssa (Terence) Hubbard of Cincinnati, Ohio.

A private family service will be held at the Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, 136 W. Roosevelt Road in Stillman Valley, with the Rev. Rick Lindholtz pastor of the Valley Evangelical Covenant Church officiating. Due to Covid-19 restrictions there will be no visitation at this time. Burial will be at the Stillman Valley cemetery. A memorial can be made in Richard Johann’s name to the local church of your choice or the Stillman Valley Fire Protection District and can be mailed to P.O. Box 218, Stillman Valley, IL 61084.  Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home in Stillman Valley is assisting the family.
