BYRON – Richard Nelson Cain, age 84, died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2019 at his home in Mount Morris. He was born Aug. 18, 1935 in Rockford the son of Everett and Edith (Nelson) Cain.
Dick attended St. Paul Lutheran Grade School in Loves Park and Byron High School. He married Phyllis a. Reeverts on Sept. 21, 1957 at the Ebenezer Reformed Church near Oregon. Dick was a member of the Ebenezer Reformed Church where he served as an Elder and Deacon. He was also a life member of the Byron Masonic Lodge # 274 where he was a 2 time Past Master of the Lodge and served on the committee as a founder of the Academic Bowl. He was also a 32nd Degree Mason with the Freeport Consistory and member of the Tabala Shrine of Rockford. Dick worked most of his life as a truck driver for Smith Oil, Piggly Wiggly, DeWall Trucking, Rockford Bakery, and Campbell Express. He was a former co-owner of Rockford Charter. In his later years Dick drove School Bus for Oregon, Byron, And Stillman Valley Schools.
He was predeceased by his parents and brother Edelbert Cain.
He is survived by his wife Phyllis of Mount Morris, 2 daughters; Beverly (Dave) Bjorklund and Brenda (Tim) Koeller all of Byron, 4 grandchildren; Brianne and Brittany Bjorklund( Rob Rubio), Brian and Brent Koeller, sister Jeannette Shumaker of Pennsylvania, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was 11 a.m., Friday, Jan. 3, 2020 at the Ebenezer Reformed Church near Oregon with the Rev. Josiah Youngquist pastor of the church officiating. Visitation was Thursday evening from 5-7 p.m. followed by a 7 p.m. Masonic Service at the Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, 506 W. Merchant Street in Byron, IL. Burial in the Ebenezer Cemetery.
