BYRON – Rodger W. Oesterheld, 83, longtime Byron resident, died Tuesday, July 28, 2020 at Serenity Hospice Home, Oregon. Born Oct. 13, 1936 in Rochelle, the son of William A. and Hortense (Rodgers) Oesterheld.

Married to Virgie Burns May 31, 1958 in Elkhorn, WI. Rodger was a 1954 graduate of Rochelle High School and was employed in maintenance by the Stillman Valley School system for 20 years prior to retiring. He also, with his wife, owned and operated the “Cupboard Shoppes” in Byron for several years. He was a two-time Past Master and nearly 50-year member of Byron Masonic Lodge #274. Rodger enjoyed, and was very good at, indoor and outdoor competitive target shooting.

Survived by his wife of 62 years, Virgie Oesterheld of Byron; daughter, Jennifer (Phillip) Whitley; sons, Jeffrey Oesterheld and Jonathan (Patricia) Oesterheld, both of Byron; and grandchildren, Onja and Kylie Oesterheld.

Predeceased by his parents.

Due to Covid 19 restrictions, private funeral services will be held at Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, Byron. Burial in Lawnridge Cemetery, Rochelle.
