BYRON – Thomas E. “Tom” Harmon, age 80, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2022. He was born in Rockford on Feb. 16, 1941 the son of Everett and Marion (Parkinson) Harmon.
He graduated from Byron High School Class of 1959. Tom married Marie Lewis on April 23, 1960. He worked as pipefitter for the Local 23 for many years prior to retirement. He was a faith filled man who attended Cornerstone Baptist Church. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and snowmobiling. Tom also liked to go out to eat at various restaurants especially with the supper club. But more than anything he was a family man. He was a supportive husband, father, and grandfather who loved to attend all the school activities and sporting events. He always made sure his family knew they were the most important thing in his life.
He is survived and missed by his wife, Marie Harmon of Byron; daughters, Karshon Hume of Byron and Kim (Mark) Childers of David Junction; brother, Bill (Barb) Harmon of Byron; grandchildren, Lindsey (Cody) Blankenship of Davis Junction, Logan (Fiancée Maddie Bayliss) Alberts of Rockford, Sydney Alberts of Stillman Valley, and Skylar Alberts of Stillman Valley; and great grandchildren, Mason, Isaac, and Kane Blankenship.
He is preceded in death by his parents and son-in-law George Hume.
The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff at the Regional Cancer Center and ProMedica/Heartland Hospice for their exceptional care of Tom. A memorial service was held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2022 at the Farrell Holland Gale Funeral Home in Byron with Pastor Randy Snider officiating. Visitation was held from 10- 11:30 a.m. prior to the service. Masks will be required to be worn at the funeral home during the visitation and memorial service. Memorials are established for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
