BYRON — The Byron High School varsity girls soccer team held off Winnebago to win the IHSA 1A Byron Regional Championship on Wednesday, May 15. Byron started the tournament with a 16-0 win over South Beloit on Friday, May 10 before edging Winnebago 1-0 to advance to the sectional tournament. Byron improved to 18-4-1 overall with the regional championship victory.
The team includes Ava Salo, Macy Groharing, Alya Roschi, Claire Henkel, Kaleah Dale, Jazmine Mrozek, Ella Hanes, Lilley Wheeler, Haley Turner, Brooklyn Kilduff, Ashley Wichman, Brynn Green, Averi Helms, Darlena Flores, Addie Fuller, Aubrie Fuller, Delaney Henert, Kristen Aranda, Arianna Irvin, Ali Muranko, Meredith Jones and Hailey West. The team is coached by Andy Stavnem and Brad Carter.
