Oregon boys bowling hosts Dakota

The Oregon boys bowling team hosted Dakota at Town & Country Lanes, Mt. Morris on Friday, Jan. 5. The Hawks came away with a 3,493-3,314 victory, avenging one of their two previous early-season losses. 

Oregon was led by Matthew Stahl with a 658 series (227, 247, 184), followed by Brady Davis’ 627 series, Gavvin Surmo’s 604 series, RJ Keene’s 579 series, Caleb Ehrler’s 528 series and Codey Dunbar’s 497 series. The win raised the season record to 14-2, with one match remaining.

The JV remained undefeated on the season, 14-0, with a 3,152-2,399 victory. Aiden Currier led the JV with a 608 series.  The girls bowled an exhibition and Ahren Howey led all bowlers with a 178 game and 436 series.

Oregon boys bowling competes in Belvidere

The Oregon boys bowling team was at the Belvidere Invitational at The Cherry Bowl on Jan. 6. The 19-school field consisted of the majority of teams who will be participating in the Freeport and Belvidere IHSA Regionals next Saturday, Jan. 13, with Oregon coming away with a third-place finish on the varsity level with a score of 5,938.

Leading the way for the Hawks was Junior Gavvin Surmo with a 1,347 series (237, 211, 235, 201, 247, 216), good enough for a fourth-place overall finish. Also finishing in the top 10 on the day was sophomore RJ Keene with a 1,260 series and an eighth-place finish. In addition, Matthew Stahl recorded an 1,133 series, Codey Dunbar an 1,101 series and Brady Davis a 1097 series. 

On the JV level Aiden Currier was the tournament champion with an 1,188 series (182, 177, 171, 235, 210, 213). In addition, Isaac Kramer finished in 18th place with a 964 series, Zakk West had a 614 series (four games), Landon Bailey had a 486 series (three games), Ivan Hernandez had a 437 series (three games) and Immanuel Arrellano had a 435 series (three games). 

The Hawks finished in fifth place as a team with a score of 4,824.  In addition, Currier participated in the JV “King oF the Hill” strike competition after the tournament and also was the champion of that event.
